Spring 2004 Car and Driver Boost
Just five paragraphs into his premiere editorial of Car and Driver’s new sport compact magazine, Boost,
Larry Webster proclaims: “Absolutely no Buicks ever!” Now that’s a pretty strong statement, but a fitting one
since this is a magazine focused on small cars and fast parts.
Unfortunately for Webster, an ad placement snafu on page 9 brought readers a Mothers® ad featuring a Buick, of course!
Was it a mistake? Perhaps it was intended as a history lesson. You see, most readers of Boost were likely born well after the production
of the 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible pictured in the ad. In fact, some readers are probably even too young to recognize it from the
1988 feature film Rain Man which starred Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise.
The moral we can learn here? Cool rides come in all shapes and sizes and from all eras. And no matter what you drive,
Mothers® Polishes•Waxes•Cleaners will help you make them look their best.
